Sensors in the Stacks: The Internet of Things and Libraries (20 minute session)

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to physical objects that have the ability to send and receive data via an Internet connection. The number of IoT devices is expected to grow exponentially over the next decade, and this presents many opportunities for libraries. As libraries embrace the IoT, privacy and security issues must also be considered. This session will include a discussion of findings from a survey conducted with librarians about the current landscape of IoT projects in libraries, the challenges of implementing IoT projects, and opportunities for future projects.
