Finding your plan: Discovery projects and collaborative development

Building a new discovery system can be a juggling act, requiring a considerable amount of collaborative work both within a library and beyond. This presentation will look at one academic library’s multi-year plan to implement a unified discovery layer and the challenges in addressing the varied user needs and technical requirements for the project. The focus of the talk will be on our efforts to incorporate library users, public services staff, and other stakeholders throughout the design and implementation process. The core technologies and systems involved will also be outlined, including both open source platforms (Blacklight, Solr) and vendor products (Alma).
