At the Threshold: Using Student Interviews To Impact Usability Initiatives (20 minute session)

As academic libraries increasingly adopt the ACRL Framework, in-depth knowledge of student users is essential not only for instruction, but also for usability. This session discusses how student interview data became the basis for student personas in a library usability initiative. We combined preliminary findings from an ongoing student interview project with web analytics data to create a nuanced picture of our students, which in turn informed our plans for specific usability testing. This session addresses the implications of our findings for usability and considers the threshold concepts from a user-centered perspective.
