Aggregated Data Reporting for Smarter Outreach and Collection Development (20 minute session)

Using library use data (Circulation, ILL, and E-Resource) in conjunction with institutional student management system, we describe the process collecting non-sensitive library user data and user demographics and reporting on library use by demographic categories like Major, Class, On/Off campus living, as well as library use and GPA. This has led to an overall improvement in identifying areas for library outreach, identifying collection development needs, and demonstrating the library’s value to the community with library use correlating to a higher average GPA than the average of those who do not use the library. It has also prompted dozens of additional research questions worth investigating as well as additional library use data points to factor into use reporting.
