LITA is taking multiple steps to ensure a welcoming and safe space for all of our participants. If you have any concerns before or during your time at Forum, please contact Jenny Levine (LITA Executive Director) at firstname.lastname@example.org, 708-955-4964 (call or SMS), or on Google Hangouts at shiftedlibrarian. See our Statement of Appropriate Conduct for further information about our norms and expectations for how participants respect each other during Forum.
We recognize there can be discomfort with appearing in photographs and videos. The Forum Planning Committee wants to ensure that any photos that are taken (whether by members of the Committee or by fellow attendees) are done in accordance with attendee wishes. The conference lanyards will be given at onsite registration in three colors:
Please pick up the lanyard that matches your preference at the registration desk when you arrive onsite and pick up your badge. We’ll keep extra lanyards at the registration desk throughout Forum, so you can come by and switch to a different color at any time.
LITA is committed to making the Forum a welcoming and safe space for participants. On Tuesday, November 15, 2016, the LITA Board issued a statement reiterating our commitment to diversity and inclusion, including at Forum. As part of our commitment to creating a safe and respectful space, we are taking the following steps.
Walk with Me
Purple stickers will be available at the registration desk onsite. If you are willing to accompany other participants who don’t want to walk somewhere alone, please put one of these stickers on your badge. If you are uncomfortable walking anywhere by yourself, please look for someone with one of these stickers on their badge.
We’re creating a Google Doc participants can use to arrange ride shares to/from the airport or other locations for those attendees who don’t want to travel alone. We’ll provide the URL for this document in the welcome email we’ll send to attendees on Wednesday, November 8. If you don’t receive the email or don’t have it handy, contact email@example.com or Jenny Levine at 708-955-4964 for the URL. We’ll also note the URL in the LITA Forum Slack channel.
There are some networking dinners that will be hosted outside of the conference hotel. Groups will be meeting in the Embassy Suites lobby and walking to the restaurant together. If you miss the group, please look for someone with a purple sticker on their badge or contact Jenny Levine at 708-955-4964 (call or SMS) if you would like someone to walk to or from the restaurant with you.
Discussions in the Uncommons
We have a designated “Uncommons” space that is freeform and can be used by anyone at any time for any purpose.
In general, Denver is a fairly diverse community. Although the largest demographic is white (53.6%), the second largest is Hispanic (30.5%), followed by Black (9.2%), and then Asian (3.4%). The Denver PrideFest is one of the top 10 Pride events in the country, and Denver has long hosted the Rocky Mountain Regional Gay Rodeo. The Visit Denver website provides additional information for LGBT travelers.
