Making without a makerspace: how to establish maker culture in a liberal arts institution

The Maker Movement has grown exponentially over a short period of time, and has been called “the third industrial revolution”. Many libraries have been at the forefront of creating makerspaces but many others are still struggling to get funding to start a makerspace. This session will focus on how a small liberal arts institution cultivated a maker culture before ever having a makerspace in place. The presenters will share the activities that can help establish and build a maker culture, such as a mini-makerfaire, popup making tables, laser cutting activities, LED and circuit workshops and 3D printing. The presenters will also talk about strategies for getting support from campus administrators, faculty, and staff .
