Don’t be so sensitive – a data security journey

The increasing use of tools that collect Personally Identifiable Information elevates the necessity for data security awareness within libraries. To begin addressing institutional concerns about data security, the presenter reviewed the regulations that govern our institution and interviewed key stakeholders to generate an inventory of library systems that collect and store PII and other sensitive data. The primary goals of this presentation are to raise awareness about the need for libraries to consider data security and to share the process of conducting an internal data security assessment. The presenter will review lessons learned and recommended next steps for their institution.
